Dirt Devil FeatherLite Cyclonic SD40100

I was quite surprised at how well this little guy picks up. The motor is 10 amps and this probably helps with the noise level as it is not too loud, but it has plenty of power. The floor tool actually sticks to the floor to some degree from the suction, and the design of it allows it to suck up the entire width of the tool and even a couple of inches out. I have hard wood floors and had no problems picking up the fur balls that my Blue Russian produces, this stuff seems to be attracted to the walls and corners. I also had no problems picking up dirt and debris my children seem to produce. I am 5'11 and the metal tube is adjustable and on the longest extension feels comfortable. I need a vacuum that I can use 1-2 times a week and not have it feel like a chore, and I think I found it.
This is my first canister, so I am no expert. The build is somewhat cheap, but this is a sub $100 vacuum so in line with what I would expect. I could not find any major manufacture flaws. The thing fells great being pulled across the floor. There seems to be some tension on the wheels to keep it stable and it works well. I was originally worried about this flipping over when moving it.
The Dirt Devil Featherlight exceeded my expectations. My only complaints are the short cord, not short enough to be a nuisance, and a cheap hose. I could see this getting kinked easily. But again what you would expect in a sub $100 model. So no stars taken off.
Only time will tell if it lasts. I'll update if I have any problems.

I had two Chinchilla's and had a handheld Shark Vacuum that worked well, but died when vacuuming the Dust from the Chinchilla' dust bath / Cage. I purchased this Vacuum based on Price, traps dust and size. I've had the vacuum for a few months and so far - It's great. I clean the Chin cage twice a day and washed the filter twice in the few months I've had the vacuum. I just washed the filter and canister part that holds the dirt with water and let it dry. I enjoy the easy way to empty the dirt from the canister, just press a button!
If I was to complain - as an engineer, I would say the retractable cord buttom is the same size as the power button and look the same, and I've mistakingly pressed the wrong button twice so far.

I bought this vacuum cleaner as I had previously had a simmilar model in Germany. I was shocked by how light it is and was not confident in how well it would clean, but it does surprisingly well and after a few days' use, I trust it to last.
It sucks well, has small but effective wheels on the sides of the hose at the head which ensure it won't scratch hard flooring and the rubber-ish surface on the two big wheels mean that it moves reliably over my varnished hardwood floor without marking.
The little independently rotating wheel underneath, which enables it to move freely in all directions, broke off from my original model in Germany - that does not appear to be any more sturdy on this version, but I'll add a comment later if it happens.
Overall, this vacuum cleaner is light and effective, moves well across my hard flooring without marking, and appears to be equally good at cleaning my rugs!
This vacuum cleaner is light and easy to move around for cleaning. I've been using it for a month now to vacuum carpet, floors and upholstery. It has a powerful motor and strong suction. The bagless canister is what I love most. You can just remove the canister and empty out the dust into a bin! I highly recommend the SD40100.
I researched a lot and ended up buying this one. I have a fully carpeted floor but I did not want to buy the regular huge upright vaccum cleaner that is difficult to maintain, is noisy and is heavy. I am impressed by how compact this one is, and it fits my needs perfectly. At one press, the wire retracts. The height adjuster adds to convenience. The price is right and it cleans perfectly. Highly recommend this product.
Great product, powerful suction. The vacuum is lightweight, very easy to use and cleaning is a snap. The constuction is solid with good quality materials. The added bonus - cord reel for neat storage.
This is absolutely one of the best vacuum cleaners I have ever used. These days I tried 3 different vacuum cleaners and I love this one. So satisfied because:
It has a strong steel wand so good material( compare to price I paid, didn't expect this good !)
It is really light, you can move it easily
2 extra heads to clean edges and curtains
With great suction
Perfect for carpets and hard floors
And it is bagless and very cute ; ) I Love it !
My previous vacuum had those motorized brush heads. It was fine, but not having any carpets in the house, I felt I was simply using a machine that had features that I did not used to their full potential. All these features also had a weight that I had to drag around while vacuuming. With this Dirt evil canister model, I had all that I needed: lightweight to quickly pick up dust, dirt and a little bit of dog hair (I have a Lhasa Apso). It's extremly easy to empty as well! Its power cord is fine for me, as I have have read somewhere on the net that some users find of somewhat short. If you have one electric outlet per room, you should be fine. I find it's power to be more than adequate: I was able to pick up some of my dog's food pellets hidden in some corners. I got this item on special at 60$ and I'm more than happy with it! Makes vacuuming much easier, lighter and faster. This model might not be powerful enough if you have a heavy shedding dog... My mom has a Pembroke Welsh Corgi that sheds continually and she has a much more powerful model. All in all, this Dirt Devil model is most likely for people who don't have carpets and little to no pet hair to vacuum. Sound level for me was comparable or a little bit less noisy than my previous model (Pet Jaguar if you do not activate the power brush).
The Dirt Devil Featherlite canister vacuum is super, I love to use it because it's so easy to use, the canister empties with the touch of a button. I love the dusting feature the most, I can dust all of my books and movies really easily, the whole vacuum is really light weight, and the automatic retraction of the electric plug is super.
