Nutramax Cosequin PLUS Chewable Tablets

A year ago this month, our 13 lb Pomeranian began to limp on her right rear leg. I took her to the vet and he said she had knee cap
displacement and was sending me to a surgical center in another town. He said to put her on complete bed rest for 2 weeks. That
meant being in her cage. He commented he had no faith in Glucosamine products. Instead of following his advice, I found out about
another vet in town that also had a pom with knee cap displacement. So I went to her and she evaluated her on a 1-5 scale and found
she was a 2. She suggested this product as that is what she was giving her pom. I did that a year ago and our Crissy is now back to
her old self. No, the knee cap displacement is not gone but the only time she shows signs of a problem is when it's trash day and she
runs outside too much to bark at the trash men so the next day she is not getting up as well so I just give her a whole tablet that
day instead of a 1/2. She is 5 now plus we have a nearly 10 year old 13lb pom boy and he takes them also. You would not know he was
nearly 10. They both have a full time job of "border patrol" at our fence but I do have to monitor Crissy's excess activity as she
loves to run! If her knee cap displaces, it pops back in. 5 is the worse so you see she is still doing well as she had her check up
yesterday and all is well! She does need to loose a little weight which is recommended for knee cap displacement but it is winter her and soon it will be spring and we can take our walks that she loves. In the meantime, sometimes she gets to go to my husbands place of work and run in the parking lot when there are no cars and the business sits way back off the street so no traffic to worry about.
I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TO ALL PET LOVERS WITH A PET WITH PAIN! P. S. To have surgery for knee cap displacement is $2000 per leg.
That means this is a very affordable alternative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus giving your pet comfort that they deserve.

First let me say I did not think this would work for my dog. I hoped it would but I had my doubts. I have a 2yr old Bernese Mountain Dog. At about 9 months he developed a slight limp on his left front leg. It seemed to come and go and the vet was fairly sure it was Pano. So we basically waited it out. The limp seemed to stay and after a few more vet visits and a few yelps of pain we decided to x-ray all of his legs and joints. There was nothing to be found. We were told bring him home and try and rest the leg, which we did. This seemed to help. But there were still days that he looked to be hurting. We then got another BMD as a friend for him. One day while running around the yard playing with her he started limping and yelped in pain. Back to the vets. After a long and painful (only for me) examination the vet proclaimed," I cannot get any pain response", she thought it might be tendon or muscle related. She recommended MSM for inflammation. He gets sick with pain and nsaids meds. Try it for a few months and by fall if it's not better we will do ultrasounds and see what we find. After some research I decided to try the Cosequin DS plus MSM. Many people said it worked, few said it did not work. After about a week I started to see some difference in his gait and he seemed more confident with that leg. He still does not walk 100% perfect but his leg does have some atrophy. After 6 weeks and a bottle I am convinced enough to buy another and lower him down to the maintenance dosage. I am impressed with the difference in him and will continue to use this product. If the limp gets worse or the yelping reappears I will do more testing. For now ultrasounds and surgeries are hopefully not in his future. I would give this a 5 star but for the cost. On a side note I am so impressed with his results I have started taking a human form (but cheaper) of this supplement !
UPDATE 9-23-11
Just wanted to say product has worked great. Spent a week hiking in Maine and he still is doing good. I switched to one a day and he did start hrmphing when he laid down so his maintenance dose is two pills a day. While hiking there was no limping or stiffness at all. I am so happy with this product that I tell everyone I meet about it (that owns dogs.)
UPDATE 2-2-2012 Change to 5 star ! I don't care what it costs ! (only kidding Amazon)
Knock on wood ! This is still helping my boy. Doing maintenance with 2 pills daily @ 100lbs seem to be the working dosage. I just wanted to say that since he has been using his leg more even the atrophy that he had is much less. Only issue I have now is that Amazon keeps running out ! Make sure to keep a spare on hand.
My 7 year old boxer-mix started having hip problems about two years ago. In the last year, she was put on a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory which required frequent rechecks by the vet to ensure her kidney and liver functions were okay. Well, needless to say, I'd rather not have to pay for dangerous drugs or tests that go with them or the visits to the vet to get said tests, etc. After I did a bit of research and read so many positive reviews, here at Amazon, we decided to try it out. And the results were unbelievable. My 75 lb dog was feeling better in a matter of days, then within weeks acting more like a puppy than she has in years. Jumping, running, playing! Before these supplements, she was laying around much of the day in pain, unable to stand up. And when she did stand up, she was shaky and whimpered. She would walk stiffly and hardly played. If we went on walks, she'd be out of commission for a few days. This turnaround is just amazing! I'm disappointed our vet hadn't recommended this safer, more effective route in the first place. But very thankful we found this!
I tried a few brands before finding this one, and the dogs act as if it is a treat! Our bigger dog tore his acl and had surgery a year ago, and in a recent x-ray the vet remarked how good the joint looked! I think the addition of this into his diet has helped tremendously in his healing process.
The Nutramax Cosequin DS plus MSN is wonderful. Saved my two Papillons, with luxating patellas, from pain and surgery. I highly recommend it.
I ran into a new vet who was just opening new offices and we got to talking about my Yellow Lab being 7.5 years old and what I was doing for joint care. She recommended I try this so I ordered it from Amazon about 3 months ago. What an amazing different in her mobility, flexibility and general overall comfort - she was starting to kind of wince about getting around especially after we'd done a few miles which we do almost every day. There were starting to be days where she was quite happy to stay home and veg on her luxury dog bed or the couch. I can tell she's way happier and back to her old enthusiastic self about heading out. My dog has a variety of food allergies and is also allergic to PenVK (antibiotic) but I've seen no side effects or allergies with this so far.
We have a 9 yr old choc lab. The dog loves them and they have improved her joint motion to where she is not limping any more.
This product has made a difference in my 7 year old Corgi's life. He was limping and having trouble getting up to walk. We took him to the vets and found out he had arthritis. The vet said this product was a good choice. We have had our dog on it for a few months and will probably continue! It is a great product.
My dog tore his cruciate ligament a year ago. The vet urged surgery. Other vets urged surgery. But our guy was older - 9 - and huge (Malamute @ 140 pounds with his winter fur...15 pounds lighter when we shave him in the summer), and 2 of his dog friends who were the same age died while in surgery.
At that same time the NYT published a study done on people with torn ACLs and their treatment. The results were statistically even between those who had surgery and those who opted out of surgery and did physical therapy. We didn't want to risk losing our dog to surgery and so tried out a few things, kind of nuttily bolstered by the NYT report (on humans). We treated our dog as though he'd just had surgery, and limited his walks to 5 mins a day. We iced his leg. We massaged his legs with tiger balm. We gave him traumeel to handle the pain (which suited him much better than the prescription pain killers). We chopped up vitamin c and niacin tabs in his food for the first 30 days. We changed his diet to a high end dog food that contained no wheat, no gluten. We cut back on his food so he wouldn't gain weight (which he didn't). We took him to a vet trained in accupuncture, which our dog loved. He used to do a little gimpy dance whenever we took him back to see her. And we gave him the Nutramax Cosequin DS Plus with MSM. We stopped the traumeel after a while, the niacin and vit c, the ice, and increased his walk time. We kept up with the Cosequin throughout. He kept getting a little better, a little better every week. And finally, about a month ago, almost a year later, we noticed that he was back to being the guy he's always been. We attribute this brand of Cosequin to a large part of his recovery. Everyone notices how peppy and agile he is now. We can now continue with our long walks of 1+ hours. We will continue with this Cosequin until the end of his time.

Im giving this product 5 stars because really I have no reason not to. It gets the job done. My 10 yr old Shepherd Mix has arthritis in his spine and hips and without a supplement like Cosequin he starts hurting so bad he can handle get up and he shakes. He gets 2 tablets a day and takes them without any fuss. Glucosamine/Chondroitin is a great supplement in my opinion and I would recommend it to anyone whose pet is prone to joint issues.
