KONG Naturals Premium Catnip 2 Ounce

I was really worried about purchasing this product given the reviewers with cats that hated it. I, fortunately, have had great luck with it. I have house cats and also care for some free-roaming cats. Both populations react favorably to the product. For the house cats, I sprinkle some in their cat beds and they roll around, sometimes head over heels. It is quite amusing to watch.
I used to buy my catnip in bags that were not recyclable. Kong's catnip is packaged in a PETE #1 plastic container, which is readily recyclable in most areas. The product's packaging also indicates that it is grown in North America.
The only negative to the product is the free toy. The toy is pretty lame. It resembles something like this Cosmic Mylar Ball 1.5'' but is made out of a green paper. I have not given it to my cats yet because I know it is going to cause a mess when they shred it to pieces. I'll give it to them on a day I plan to vacuum.
Other than the toy, the product is great. I plan to purchase it again.

My cats have sampled quiet a few catnips and will turn down any catnip that isn't up to their standards. The cheaper catnips at the store do not have as strong as a smell and they turn their nose up at it. We tried this after their former favorite brand cosmic catnip was no long sold at our petstore. We started buying this brand and noticed the difference in smell and texture. I can open this container and smell it immediately and the cats will come running into the room even if they were sleeping in another room. This catnip not only has dried crushed leaves but the little buds and occasional piece of stem in it. My cats love that, they lick and eat the leaf bits and buds and love to lick and chew on the little stem bits in it and it helps clean the plaque on their teeth :). The screw lid container keeps the catnip very fresh and keep the cats from tearing the container open like they would do with the cosmic catnip. There is quiet a bit in the container and will last quiet a while even if your cats like to eat the catnip. They love the little paper toy that comes in the container and even last quiet a while considering how destructive my boy kitty is. The only catnip they prefer over this is some homegrown freshly dried organic catnip.
If you go to your big chain petstore you can smell the difference between this catnip and the others. This is the only catnip bought from a store that include buds and stems rather than just leaves. You wouldn't think cats would like to have little stem bits in their catnip but they do love chewing them.
My kitties give this catnip A+
Arrived quickly ans packaged great.
Walking in from the mail box I was greeted by my 10 year old RG who is a Catnip addict.
Sprinkled a bit on the carpet and instant Karma it was so strong she had to back off and shake her head and then dive back into it again.
Now I have a new addition to my household an 18 month old jet black DMH her prior owner had to go into a Nursing home.
Minnie did not react to my prior brand of Catnip and she also did not react to Kong. Some Cats are immune to its affects and she seems to be one but aside from that I think Kong is a fine product.
UPDATE:
The catnip dries out very fast and loses it potency. It becomes just some dried out GRASS CLIPPINGS.
feline party time. my cats advise me to give this item five stars. And I always do what the cats tell me.
I was worried by some of the more negative reviews here, but decided to give this a try because of the great price. Well, that worked out well. My cat goes crazy for it, and really that's what catnip is all about. Will definitely be purchasing more as soon as she goes through this batch.
Same price and size of what I bought at PetSmart, but the cats loved this more. Maybe it's fresher. Great for getting the furballs out of my hair when I need to do something around the house.
UPDATE--It must be the freshness, because this still beats anything I've purchased in a store. I've got one cat that tries to stick her whole head in the jar, and a smarter kitty that sticks a paw in and grabs a bunch. All of this while I'm trying to put a little on the ground for everyone.
In December 2010 I purchased "PSI OLD FASHION CATNIP TUB 1 1/2 OZ" for a little over 8 bucks. My wife
said it was the only catnip that ever worked for our cats. I just now came back to buy another tub as we
were almost out but it went up to over $17!!!!! That was ridiculous!! This KONG stuff was natural and had
mostly good reviews. I just got it in the mail today and opened it and the CATS WENT APE OVER IT! Just as
excited (if not more) than the PSI stuff I bought. Looked pretty fresh, too!! I am very happy with this.
I know all cats are different. Some cats like Chicken, some like fish. My orange tabby cat likes broccoli,
asparagus, corn and black beans! The black cat is pretty finicky. But they both love this catnip. When I finally
show my wife the brand she is going to be amazed as she said she has tried other store bought brands and she was
sure PSI was the only one for our cats. Thanks Amazon, we have 2 options now, whichever one is priced cheaper when
it's time to buy some more! LOL :)
Love this item- I have two cats, never slept in their beds until I purchased this item
I sprinkle just a bit in each bed and they sleep, finally, in their beds- perfect item....
In case you don't know this, some cats have the "catnip gene" and some do not. That is the source of the desired reaction from catnip.
That being said, the quality of the nip absolutely makes a difference, as some cats who have previously shown no affinity for the herb, suddenly react when exposed to better stuff. I believe Kong must package theirs pretty quickly after drying since it seems the concentration of nepetalactone (the active substance) is higher in their product. The fresher the nip, the bigger the buzz! The price per ounce is also better than I can get at PetSmart or Wally World so it's a no-brainer.
The toy that came in the last container was fantastic. A crinkly little ball of material that made irresistable crinkly noises was an instant hit and a nice suprise to find.
Aside for growing it yourself, this is the best deal around.
