Love so much, we bought 2 of them!

Honeywell Pure Round Purifier 50150 N

Honeywell Pure Round Purifier 50150 N

This puppy really moves some air. My daughter is allergic to everything and I have yet to hear her sneeze in the morning since buying this purifier. It is loud but considering the volume of air it moves that is to be expected. We have a rather large living room (30'x20') and I'm a smoker. On the high setting, this purifier draws my cigarette smoke in from the other side of the room. I was amazed at how well it circulated the air in the bottom floor of our home. I keep it out from the wall for optimum circulation and let the big dawg eat. If you want clean air, this purifier will flat out do it. I contacted Amazon customer support after seeing a few reviews about an "older model" without the permanent hepa filter being shipped and the lady at Amazon assured me that the product that I ordered was as described. She was correct and I received exactly what I ordered and wanted! Thanks Amazon! Great product at a great price!

I bought this air purifier for our living room and the small desktop version for our master bedroom in November '09 when we added a large dog to our household. I was mostly concerned with the dog hair and pet dander and general dog odors associated with indoor pets. What I didn't account for was how much better I would breath.

I've suffered chronic sinus infections (probably 3-4/year) since I was a teenager, but have had virtually no allergy problems since using these filters. We run them almost 24/7 and this model is still performing very well and has since been moved into our master bedroom. (The other model we purchased, the much smaller HHT-011, still works, but has some noisy/broken bearings or something rattling around now). The last time I had a sinus infection was a couple of months ago when we went on vacation and I didn't have an air purifier in my bedroom.

I will say that if you use it on "high", it's fairly loud, but kind of like a noise machine (only not as loud as white noise machines usually are). We can run it on any setting all night and it doesn't bother us, but the high setting is probably too loud if you have it in a family room and have company or are trying to watch TV.

I really think it helps a good bit with pet odor, but if you have dogs sleeping inside in a carpeted room, you will still have some "doggy smell" when you first open the door in the morning.

I vacuum my filter off when the clean filter indicator comes on, and have also replaced the outer carbon filter a time or two (but usually just vacuum it off). The disposable carbon filters are pretty cheap but the HEPA filter is permanent, so you shouldn't have to replace it.

We bought this because it wasn't too expensive and it had good ratings. My husband has allergies, and we live in a dry, dusty city. After a month of using the Honeywell air purifier, my husband checked our household air filters, and there was a drastic improvement. They were much cleaner. I have also noticed a huge difference in the amount of dust bunnies that gather. We have four dogs, so shedding can be bothersome. However, this air purifier does help keep the hair out of the air. We sleep with it on high, because we like white noise and it's pretty loud. On low, it is comparable to the level of sound a clothes dryer makes. We love this product!

After a few nights dealing with this annoying blue LED, I decided to take the unit apart and find the problem. It is located under the top control panel, just pry up from the bottom, take of the white plate (3 screws) and pull (with pliers) the long LED from the circuit board. NO MORE BLUE LIGHT!

The unit does a great job of cleaning the air, I sleep better and the room smells fresh. Unlike some, I rather enjoy the noise of the fan, it provides a soothing low white noise and aids in my sleep.

First off, I don't believe everyone needs an air purifier. If you are in a suburban area and can open your windows from time to time, and if you vacuum your home regularly there is only a need unless you have special contaminants (like pet hair) and specific allergies (like dust -- mold should probably be removed from home, not "filtered" as that's like masking an odor instead of cleaning what's causing it).

Personally I live in NYC which means:

    - I have a small apartment with horrible air quality

    - There is outdoor (and indoor) noise and commotion almost constantly

    - I don't feel like paying $400+ for a HEPA filter because I pay enough for rent

Not related to NYC in particular:

    - I have a cat

This filter, for someone in a similar situation, is FANTASTIC.

    - The circular design really moves air well (you can feel a subtle breeze when it's on "turbo" speed

    - HEPA means allergens and that evil "black dust" will be captured

    - There is a noticeable "whooshing" air sound on all speeds but 1 (of 3). For city dwellers this is the same sound that "white noise" generators produce and can actually help you sleep at night -- instead of it being very quiet then suddenly there is a subway going by, a motorcycle revving and setting off car alarms, etc. all of these sounds kind of become background noise instead of dramatic, startling noise.

    - The price is reasonable (side note about complaints about replacing the charcoal prefilters every three months in reviews of other sizes of same basic Honeywell filter: depends on what level of dust and particulates you collect over the course of a few months, if not a lot then see my first point -- you might not need a filter. I can say that after 2 of the 3 months of use my prefilters are FILTHY and I would rather start with a new one than vacuum it (if it were even an option). Also: anything extra the prefilter can capture just alleviates stress on the HEPA filter.

    Other thoughts:

    - Not sure why everyone and their grandmother is putting BRIGHT BLUE LIGHTS all over their electronics. It's kind of cool now, but will be completely dated in a few years. (the fan knob has a blue backlight) A friend and I were joking that it could be marketed as a "free nightlight!". Of course once you add that to the other million "nightlights" from my other electronics you have a room that is too bright to sleep in.

    - Design is simple and maintenance is easy

    - Not sure if Honeywell plans to change this, but let's face it, even "lifetime" filters will need to be replaced eventually. It seems like the replacements now are now "stackable" ones -- I'd need 3 to replace my one HEPA filter -- NOT a good design as it allows more possible air leaks for contaminants to get through.

    - Though I am no consumer-reports science lab that can measure how many individual particulates are being pulled from the air, I can say that my vacuum does have less to pick up (I don't fill up bags nearly as quickly as I used to) and my girlfriend (who is allergic to cats) is comfortable in the bedroom where an older Honeywell HEPA filter has been cycling air for over a year.

I bought this air filter for my den, which has a little mold damage from a leaky room. Within a day, the lingering, stale smell of mold was gone, and the air felt so much crisper and clean. The high setting is quite loud in an otherwise silent room, so I recommend using the high setting during the day (when I play music throughout the house anyways, and can't hear it), and turn it to low at night, which is very silent. I am very pleased with this excellent product. We leave ours on 24/7.

Bought this for my sisters bedroom and it's been working great. During the day It's usually on high and at night it's on low. It's been running for about 3 months nonstop. Have tested the air with UV light and Laser and this thing really cleans the air. Considering all the stuff that are in the air this unit does the job with minimal expense and great efficiency. If you have an infant or a toddler this is a must.

I generally don't believe in air filters ever since reading about an Italian study where they saw that children who grew up in homes with purified air were more likely to be asthmatic and have other health issues. It makes sense--if you train your lungs to be accustomed only to the purest of air, then you are too fragile to handle the polluted air outside.

Nonetheless, I purchased this air filter for its HEPA filter when we renovated our master bedroom and I was still freaked out about the possibility of lead paint dust in the air. Even after the renovations were complete, we continued to run the air filter in our bedroom simply because we saw that it was an effective white noise machine for our toddler (who still sleeps with us and who still needs the noise machine to keep her from waking at every sound). The machine makes a nice, low hum on its lowest setting, which is less intrusive than the noise machines we'd been previously using.

After 6 months of use, I suddenly realized that none of us have gotten sick this season yet (knock on wood). My daughter is enrolled in 3 different school programs (don't ask) and each of her many classmates and 4 of her 5 teachers/asst. teachers have been out with flu, H1N1, colds or something or other. My husband had 3 major colds and flu before the end of December last year. And yet, none of us have gotten sick yet this year. I cannot definitively trace it to the air purifier, but I think that it has contributed to it.

Moreover, I've noticed that in the living room, when the morning sun streams through the window, you can see all the dust dancing in the rays. In the master bedroom with the air purifier, directly above the living room, the same rays produce almost zero dust floating in the sunlight.

I've been so pleased with this product and I think using it on the low setting and at night only has been great for our family.

My only complaint is the same as others--the blue light is pretty bright at night and there's no easy way to shut it off without dismantling the item. We usually just take a pair of my daughter's sweat pants to throw over the switch to dim the light.

I originally bought this Honeywell HEPA filter from a local store because of all of the visible dust in the air of our home. We did a remodel on a 1928 home and when the sun shined through the window you could see all of the "floaties." Dust was always piling up on flat surfaces despite our vacuuming and cleaning efforts. I turned this thing on (it is loud) and within an hour there was nothing visible in the air! I would move it from the basement, then the first floor than our upstairs bedroom to clean the air on the different levels of our home. Now I am going to buy one for each level. This is an older model so I am researching their newer versions. Bottomline: solid product without one problem
